are you using the correct type of wrench? brake line and other hard lines require flare wrenches that are open ended wrenches that support the soft fitting on all sides and do not round them off

woa whoa bro, u need to use Line wrenches for those fittings, vice grip will put teeth marks and round them off, get those wrenches, but if u seriously messed them up already u might aswell cut them off and get new ones.

OK dude.....step away from the car and grab a beer. Do NOT continue working in your current state. You will end up needing a new windshield or other breakable stuff. Ask me how i know.

That is the down side of having a foward hinged hood.... NO BUFFER FOR FLYING TOOLS!!! 94Polo6Speed is right, Come back to the car in the morning with a clear mind. Remember this is a 19 year old car and things are not going to come right off.

Vice grips are a no no. Use the proper tools.

Also be sure to replace the rounded off nuts with new ones when reinstalling.

Does anyone remember the program on TNN "Shade Tree Machanic"

All kidding aside... that sucks, I hope you can get it all straightened out. I have been there before coming from Rhode Island where everything is corroded and a bear to work on... maybe your vette is a northern car.

Vice grips and brake line nuts. Reminds me of the time I tried to bleed the brakes on an old Austin, The cast iron axle housing broke and the bleed nut came out with a big chunk of iron around it. I just reused the nut in the master cylinder where that line fed, blead the other three and was good to go Never thought of using vise grips tho

I bought a set of the Metrinch tools. I am surprisingly very happy with them. No longer worry about rounded nuts and they tackled my brake line with no problems. I'd use these over the traditional brake line tool any day.

I can appeciate your frustration. Ran into the same issue when replacing the tranny lines on my 86 pickup. Over time it seemed like the nut had welded itself to the radiator and the line. No amount of PB Blaster did any good.

My vote is for Metrinch as well. Best damn tool set I have ever owned. They work on BOTH metric and inch, and grip the flats, not the sides. I've often rounded off brake line nuts and the like with flare wrenches, but not with my Metrinch. Take a look into it.
