My pass. window rolls up and down without problem. But if you roll it down and roll it back up it starts to whistle at around 60 & up. If you open the door and hit the swtich again it will go up about another 1/4" and not whistle at all. I do not know what is causing this but it drives me crazy....I have checked to see if anything was in the way of the glass itself and didn't find anything. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Dave
My 85 does that too. The window binds against the rubber weatherstripping on the way up and stops short. I also have to open the door to get the window all the way up. More of a nuisance than a anything and was that way when I bought it. Glad to hear I am not the only one.
This is exactly what was happening to me just before my ribbon gear snapped. You didn't mention what year you baby is but if she is 86 or earlier you can replace the entire regulator assembly with one from an 87. You will need to drill 2 small holes in the bottom of the door but if you are careful and measure like a gazillion times before drilling you will be okay.
My memory is getting pretty short because I can't remember who sent me the replacment instructions. I think it was Centralcoaster but I am not sure. If you need any help if or when you change the regulator, let me know and I will e-mail some tips and photos that I took when I did mine.
Sorry for not mentioning in the first post, but it is a 91' model...The window has plenty of speed when it goes up and down, it just doesn't go all the way up.
Has your window always done thiis? or did it just start? Is it just one side?
To elaborate on my earlier response. My 85 (coupe) had no window trouble until the former owner replaced the weather stripping. He warned me that it was tight and the only way to get the windows all the way up, and to seal... is to open the door first. My drivers side is worse beacuse it is very slow to close anyway. The passenger side window had already been upgraded ...and also has plenty of speed, but when it nears he top, it binds against the rubber and stops 1/4-1/2" short. Both doors are hard to close for the same reason.
Ultimately I fried my switch and almost fried my car due to over zealous window closing. Once It get the console back together (parts on order)I am going to try "lubing" ithe weatherstrip with something non-corrosive to the rubber to see if that improves the travel....if it works I'll keep you posted. Friction of some kind has to be the culprit.
