Yep, I started out with a 50 ford coupe with a flathead 6, 3 speed. I was cool with my Hurst Mystery Shifter and bucket seats. Then made the big upgrade to a 57 Chevy vert. When I finally let her go (to attend college) she had a 301, 4 speed, 4.56 posi and I really hated parting with her. After raising 2 boys, I finally found the Vette I've always wanted and it was lower in price than I expected. I've had the Vette'n disease ever since. Oh a guys midlife crisis is usually some where around a woman's MEN-O-PAUSE.
Count me in on the muscle car days. In 68 I spent a whopping $400 on parts and machine work and rebuilt my 65 Malibu SS 327 4speed into a 13 to 1 large valve rumpity cammed 4:11 geared street machine. I did buy a new 79 L-82 which was wimpy and I sold it a year later. I built a pro street sick shift blown small block Chevelle but it still didn't scratch the itch for a Corvette. Finally, at 57 years old this summer a black on black 92 LT1 six speed with 70K on the clock was too tempting. It is not wimpy. Lots more power than my old 65 and has A/C too. My wife actually loves the thing and insists we take it every time we go. Her Jag is the long trip car now and the Chevelle is looking mighty lonely. Maybe a little nitrous would make it accelerate like my Chevelle!
i was 17 and bought a red '68 tempest convertible, 350ci and 2 speed auto tranny for $400.00. had it for many years, then bought a brand new silver '79 firebird formula, then on to a new silver monte carlo ss. in the late '80's i got tired of working on gm cars and taking them to the shop and mechanic constantly, and bought the first acura integra. even though i have owned honda products since then, (can't complain about never having to repair them!) this corvette is my first gm since...and i LOVE IT. i can't get enough of the corvette. it's what i always wanted since i was a teen.... thank god i never lost my dream!!!
Belated happy birthday and welcome to the CF. The folks here are some of the best Corvette people you will find. Sounds like you've bought a very nice ride. My first car was a '57 Chevy in 1960. I've owned all sorts of cars since then. I bought my '92 in August, 2000. My only question has been, "Why did I wait so long?"
Thanx all you guys and gals(if your out there) for the great comments and welcomes. In spite of the fact that they think I'm spending their inheritance, my 4 kids can't wait to see the car when they show up for Christmas. gain, Thanks.
