I first posted here on Oct. 24th. One week after my 65th B'day. As a teen growing up in the '50's cars were a big thing. I started out with a '52 Ford convert., flathead v8. Didn't take long to get skirts, nosed and decked, Olds hubcaps and hollywood mellow tone glass packs. Always wanted a vette. Well today I closed the deal on a 1996 Artic White LT1 coupe, that was advertised on this board by 1patriot. My wife and I drove the 230 miles down to Evans, GA and picked it up. Great exchange, then made the 41/2 hour treck back to Pinehurst. Let me just say that it dosen't drive/ride like our 2003 Camry. Now starts a new phase of my life. Thanks to Jesse and everyone on the board.
Congrats on your Corvette! I like you grew up as a teen in the '60's. First car '63 Ford Galaxie 2 dr. hardtop 390 4 speed. Just bought my first Corvette Oct. 16, a '92 Polo coupe. Just as you say it doesn't ride and drive like our Volvo wagon, but I always wanted one. I just turned 55 last Sunday.

Better late than never. As you probably already know after your trip home, the C4 and LT1 especially is a great road car. You'll be looking for excuses to drive it. And may I welcome you to Corvette ownership and the forum, it's always great to see members on here even older than me!

Back when I was much younger, I had a '63 XL rag top 390 4 gear. Another one of the great road cars I've owned and one Ford that I really miss!
I just LOVE it when young kids like you get involved with Corvettes! Now, some think I'm an old geezer, approaching my 72nd birthday. But my Corvette keeps me young enough to ENJOY life to the fullest! Congratulations, God Bless and ENJOY!
Last year for my birthday I purchased a 1996 A4 white vette. I went to Orlando (250 miles) to pick it up. It was a great drive home and I still get a kick out of driving to work in it. Congrats to you.
Growing up in the 50's and 60's seems to be a common theme this a.m.
I'm one of those that started driving in the age of musclecars.Always admired vettes at the time but they were out of reach.Settled for a 66 Chevelle 283 3spd.bench seat and add on air hanging under the dash.
It quickly turned into a 327/300 4spd.and the 'right' buckets. No Air,robbed power,ya know.Anyone remember what vinyl seats felt like in the middle of summer,or winter, for that matter?
My memories of vettes at the time was only those old farts had one and could'nt possibly enjoy it as much as I could.
Well, well, here I am at 54 VERY much enjoying my first,93 coupe, that I got this past spring.Spent many months reading this forum gathering info.before I joined.Glad I did and I'm sure you will be too.
Hope you're having as much fun as I am!
Glad you had a good trip home and were introduced to the "new to you corvette" with a road trip. It was great car when I owned it and I know you will have a blast with it also.
You and your wife are fine folks and deserve to live in the sunny south.
Same here-started with old flat head sixes, V8s, onto the early 50's Oldsmobiles etc. Bought my third vette on my 55th, that was six years ago-nice to have dreams come true-welcome and BTW-get used to the fact you're gonna here form your friends "are you having a mid life crisis" my response was hell yes and I'm enjoying it.
When I was first asked if my vette was a mid-life crisis car, my (new) wife quickly retorted. "This is the end-of-the-crisis car!" You are going to find out that one of the great things about being gray at the temples is that the cops look at the car, look at you, and then look away. Have fun.

So if I just get a little gray dye..................
Great responses!
It's always been Vettes for me since my cousin gave me a ride in his '65, I was 10.
Everytime I drive one of mine it still feels 80% as great as that first drive in one that was all mine!
congrats on your new vette i also own a 96 arctic white with red in and havent got to go on a long road trip yet but plan on it soon i had a 85 and i loved driving it cant wait to get the lt1 opened up i think you will enjoy your car i even bet it want be long and you will have more than one.......
Congrats on the Vette, and of course your birthday. I have an Artic White 91, and it's my first Vette. My first new car was a 69 GTO, and it had the 350 in it with the Turbo-hydramatic transmission. What a screamer that car was. Welcome aboard.
