Oh man sure brings back memories. Had a 69 roadrunner and a 70 charger. Back then It was great. And now look at what some of those cars are selling for.

Not even close. The Charger was a tank. Granted, the 440 Mag was a hell of an engine and I can see at best, low 14s, pure stock. Now take the 440 six-pack in a 70 Cuda. That was without doubt the fastest 440 ever made. Low 13s if you could hook it up. Off the showroom floor, slightly quicker than the Hemi Cuda. This I believe, is the only 440 that could take a good LT1.

Ya know I love this vert...
But I have owned 2 chargers... 68 440RT & 69hemiRT.
With a good set of rears on my 69, you and your bad vette ain't gonna beat it. I admit it wasn't stock, no big mods though, .060 over, better tunnel ram and dual holly's instead of the afb's, square tube headers, but that's not the point... I had over 500 ponies and more than that in torque. I would lift the front end off the ground nearly on demand.
SOLID 12's every day of the week... 11's when I worked on it and had everything tight... went through three sets of rear tires the first month. I could break the tires loose rolling at 70 on 35W south of Dallas.
Now if I could put a hundred more cubes in my vert... I know it would give it a good run.

My second car was a 68 road runner with a 383 and a 4 speed, basically stock. I think my LT1 could take it, but man it sure seemed like a monster back in 1974. I could spin the tires without even thinking about it. I had some good times in that car! Not all of them while driving.

Yeah, they were a solid 14 second car, bone stock. And although they and the Charger were both B bodies, the Road Runner was a good bit lighter due to being a bare bones Plymouth with nothing but a big engine. Also, the 383s made their peak power higher than the 440s, they liked to wind out, much like a good small block. They were fun cars, putting the big block muscle car in the price range of most anyone.
Oh yeah, I think most, if not all of the first year Road Runners had bench seats making OTHER forms of fun possible w/o even getting in the back! Gotta love those big old American cars!

My first car was 1970 Challenger R/T convertible with a 440 Six-Pak, Plum Crazy. Now I'm stuck with this lousy vette that is almost as fast and gets 20mpg better than the mopar on the highway.
I'd still take the Mopar for looks and cool factor though.

That's one thing the vette has over either of the chargers I had... one got 13mpg the hemi got 9.
I'm a Mopar guy at heart, (and a 'Vette newbie) so this ones tough on emotion alone, not to mention performance, but the 'Vette is an all around better car. Nothing against the old muscle cars of course, but there's more to life than driving in a straight line! But , if Daisy is in the passenger seat of the Charger, I could reconsider! ATTN Mopar guys: Anyone see the NEW Charger? Horrible! Diamler Chrysler should get a clue and look at Ford and their Mustang! I must admit, the 05 'Stang is nice, reminds me of my friend's '69!! But gimme a C6 anyday!!!

Man, I could only imagine pulling up to work in one of those. You'd get more attention than any chump driving any exotic.
And make sure you weld the doors shut. I used to climb in the window of my Ford just for fun. One of my "friends" tried doing a Bo Duke across the hood though, that didn't go too smoothly.
Mine was a six pack cuda...auto w/3.55 gear and headers...went 13.00@108 on 6' slicks(spinning all the time)...We also had a bone stock B body car(Coronet RT) with 3.23s that went 13.80.... I have always thought a good 440 would turn low 15s in a dump truck loaded with gravel... Maybe we need to stuff one into a C4...
horsepower was crankshaft rated back then.
they just did a big shootout on discovery channel where they ran a pile of muscle cars through the 1/4/.
a 69 mustang 428cj beat em all and it only ran a very low 14 second.
these were bone stock cars though including rubber.
was fun to watch em flog on them things though.
they even did a burnout contest with them.(mustang won that too)
Only reason the Mustang won because the Hemi Challenger's clutch was on its way out ( why did they use a car with a sick clutch? Shoulda used a car with a healthy one)
