Default Carpet kit install.

Ok, I ordered some carpet from Wilcox. It should be here by the end of the week. So Now I am taking out the old stuff. What' the best way to do this? I take it all the trim that borders the carpet will have to be removed? Also, What do you use to keep it in place. I ordered mass back.

Can't quite help you out there Rich, but I'm expecting new seat covers(leather-like) and foam from Wilcox under the tree on Saturday and if I liked the quality I was going to buy the mass-back Carpets from Wilcox as well, So I'll be watching this thread.

look in my pics. might help you out some. 3m spray glue is good. the job itself is fairly easy. after you get you seats out it should just come right out. then in with the new.

If you look in the other post about leather vs. leather-like you will see pics of the covers I got from Wilcox. I am very satisfied. With the additional padding I used to make up for the compression of the foam they are very comfortable.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Also, I have replaced carpet in a C2 & C3 so far and found that the factor 'glue' will need to be removed. I just used a putty knife. A hair dryer may be useful if there are any wrinkles in the new carpet. And take your time.

I just got my carpet set from Willcox and there's a website address on the box for carpet install instructions. I haven't checked it out yet but I will be. I plan on using the 3M spray adhesive. Your's will probably be just like mine, shipped directly from Auto Custom Carpet.

I just redid the entire entire on my '89. The carpet was not a bad job at all. One weekend, I removed everything, the next weekend, I put it all back together. One hint, use clear sealable sandwich bags and right down where you got the screws, nuts, bolts from.

This is what I did:
Removed both seats
Removed rear hatch area trim
Removed speaker covers
Removed rear hatch area side carpet sections
Remove storage covers and buckets.
Removed rear hatch lower section
Removed rear "hump" carpeting
Removed seat belts (had to buy the correct star size)
Removed door sills
Removed center console side sections
Removed floor sections
Removed carpet below dashboard sections

I installed everything in the opposite manner as I removed it. The door sills took a little more time than expected. I removed the carpet, used glue remover, washed it, then applied glue and placed the carpet. I had to trim it so it looked good.

Last hint, place a piece of tape hear the screw holes so you can find them.

Good luck.

I can strip a C4 interior in 30 mins now to replace carpet...

1. if you have power seats, leave them all plugged in and move them around and take out all the nuts holding the seats down before you unplug them. In my '96, if you unplug the driver seat, the passenger seat stops working.
2. there is a hidden bolt holding the tunnel carpet on the passenger side. Just to the right of the radio, you need to remove the console, and then remove the bolts holding the facia around the radio. Once you have the bolts out...move the bottom of the facia out and you'll see the hidden bolt.

Good advice above on a hair dryer or heat gun for the tunnel carpet. You'll need to heat up the glue to remove it from the mounting plastic and then glue it down. VERY IMPORTANT...as soon as you glue the new carpet on the tunnel mounting plastic, hold it up to the tunnel to make sure you have it correct...it's very easy to flip the pieces around.

Watch the bolt/screw sizes...they are not all the same even though they look it...some are longer/thinner than others...so set up a tray where you can put the bolts/screws in a way that you remember where they came from.

Last Vette I did the carpet in (mine) took about 2 hours...

Hey this thread's got some GREAT info

Let's say, hypothetically, someone wanted to change from Tan, to Black carpeting, how difficult is the transition? Does this kit include EVERYTHING you need??

And pardon the ignorance, but who is Wilcox??

I searched EBay, and didn't find anything.

If you save the pic from the ebay add it looks like it includes everything you need to make the change including the carpet under the dash.

Here is an ebay link for carpet.

Thanks for the link!!

But, unless I'm missing it, I don't see a kit for the '95 - they all stop before that

This was one of my favorite projects. I went from black to bright blue carpet. I really like it. There are about 9-11 pieces for the coupes. I took my time and tackled one area at a time. It helps to have a table nearby to lay things out on. Some pieces go in easily and some take time and patience. There are several ways to attach carpeting: hot glue, velcro, carpet tape, and adhesive. Mine is not a daily driver so I could walk away from the project when I got impatient. Take your time and line everything up carefully. When you are done you will really know your interior well. Take before and after pictures for later. Good Luck and have fun.

My 85 has a gray interior so that means to do a color change I have to dye some plastic pieces like the console sides where the carpet doesn't cover. and the sills. Keep this in mind when doing a color change, it's not just carpet.

Keep checking ebays carpet auctions, that's where I found Willcox.
