I just got a 1990 Vette and withy my luck the engine seems to
quit or bog down at high rpm's (3800). It idles fine but when
accelorating hard it seems to have problems. It now has flowmaster
mufflers and a K & N cone air filter. There are no great places for
service in my area and the dealer is too expensive. I'd appreciate any
suggestions. Oh and my electronic heater doesn't seem to blow hot air.
Wish my wife was the same!

It was recently tuned up and exhales through flowmaster.
I disconnected the alternator and the bog stopped.
When I reconnected it the mis started again. Can you
help me figure this out?

I had a Ford Festiva that did the samething. The alt was bad and at night it would bog down the tiny 4 cyl. New alt no more problem.
I don't think its the same problem on your car though.
How did you disconnect the alt, by the the belt or a lead?
Do a voltage chk on the bat and the alt.

I disconnected the leads to the alternator. An auto parts place checked the alternator and said it was running fine, although it was checked only at idle, I'm not sure what it would be putting out at 3800 rpm. It does not miss while disconnected.

On my work car another Ford the alt would drop the brushes at anything over 2500 rpm the battery light would light up till you backed off the gas. It would check out fine till you got on it. It never missed though.
Months later it gave up the ghost.
It doesn't miss while disconnected? Man thats a wierd one.
If its the alt then your battery should be in a discharged state?
It doesn't make any sence unless your not getting enough voltage to your ignition system. But then it should run even worse with the alt dis-connected? Unless the alt is pulling a huge drain on your electrical system? It sounds like it could be your alt.
