I am wanting to get a better sound out of the Vette. I have the original mufflers on and am wanting to change them out to some aftermarket ones. I would prefer to do a complete cat back system and some other mods but funds are tight. I think my best bet for the moment would be to find some nice mufflers and start from there. I just wanted some thought on it. Sound clips are great too. Thanks
I went with the Magnaflow catback system (bought from hottexhaust.com). Like you, I was looking for something a little meatier than the stock exhaust and the Magnaflows were perfect for me. As a side bonus I can definitely feel a difference in power. You can also get 10% off by using the coupon code vetteforums. Here are some pics
Seeing that you have an LT1 - the pipes are already in great shape. Big with no kinks.
I just replaced the mufflers. Took off the stock ones and added flowmaster 40s. Cut the tips off - had them chromed, and welded them back onto the flowmasters. The sound is good. Not too loud with the stock resonator, but much more of a presence. It has a slight resonation in the cab while cruising in the 1600-1800 rpm range.
This is a cheap mod with a pair of 40s on ebay for less than $100 to your door. Plus about $50 for the welding.
I removed my Lt1 mufflers and put on dual Supertrapps on my 92 vert, sounded great, and alot of people use them on vettes. They are adjustable sounding mufflers, by adding and removing baffle plates that come with the muffler. So you can sort of "tune" how you want your exhaust to sound. This might be a good choice for you, since it seems you may not know what you want the sound of your ride to be like. With these mufflers, you can simply change the sound. The Lingenfelter vette with like 90000 million HP has 4 of these supertrapps on it. So, when I decided to buy them, I said "well, if thats what the big boys are using, I cant go wrong!" I paid $400 for both and another 50 to mount them. I got ALOT of questions and looks from them. I had to buy them from a Harley Motorcycle dealership, since, they are usually a distributer for them. My local Harley dealership had no idea that they WERE a distributer till I pointed it out to them, then they promptly ordered my pipes. The staff there REALLY was interested how they would work on a vette. My experience : GREAT. Im probably going to hack off the ANSA mufflers I have on my 86 vette I have, and replace them too.
