I took a look at GM's crate motors here, and found out that a brand new LS2 engine can be had for a mere $5.895. And I was thinking, since a supercharger for the C4 would probably cost about $5k anyway, it may be more cost effective to just buy one of these and put it in there!
It's just an idea I thought I should share with you all....
there are some issues with fitting an LSx into a C4. It has been done, and more and more are doing it, but don't be surprised if the installation cost catches up with the motor cost.
It ain't gonna be cheap... If you have an automatic, you will be ok, but if you have a ZF6, you are in trouble - things don't mate up too well.
This is not a new idea, sorry to say... and perhaps, in time, there will be easy kits to get to make this happen.
I have an automatic, but I suspect that the power output of the LS2 would rip it apart.
So i was thinking that I would probably have to also replace the trans, and the rear end, and the hood, and probably a dozen other things. So yeah, I'm sure the costs would add up a LOT. But hey, it's still cheaper than a new C6, and it would make a helluva sleeper at the track.
yeah, i thought about it myself... you can probably make room for the rear for the trans, and you can probably get custom drive and halfshafts... but... i'd probably want to switch over to the C5/6 suspension setup since the halfshaft length will change the geometry big time.
i'd have to make a subframe (and attach it to the car!) to mount the rear control arms. cool idea, but i'd have to crap out greenbacks to do it.
