Someone gave me a resistor (looks like a 10¢ item) and told me put it on my IAT to make car run better. He says when he did it to his Camero it ran better, blah blah blah. My 92 runs fine and was just wondering if anyone has done this to their car? I was going to try it this weekend since it looks like a boring weekend .
I think you would be waisting your time doing this. Read Nathan Plemons paragraph regarding "Useless Modifications" for performance enhancements. Messing with the IAT sensor is at the top of his list. My assumption is that this "resistor" is intended to have the same effect as relocating the IAT switch to an area where the air would be cooler(ie further away from the hot engine).
Mike is right on. These things are being sold on eBay for a lot of different cars. If fools the computer into thinking that the air is cooler than it really is so the fuel mixture will be increased and I believe the timing is also advanced. Down side is your fuel mileage as there's no on/off for this thing....your always enriching the fuel mixture weather at idle or bumming around town. Don't think anyone's really measured the gain.

True, as far as the resistor goes anyway. Relocating it however, can't HURT anything. The temp is really little, if any, different further forward. But it is claimed by some that the signal is more stable there. I sure don't know but more manufacturers are locating them in the airbox these days.

It seems as though as long as it is in front to the MAF (if there is one) its common place.
