Sounds like a great mod, i'm gonna try it. The only problem i can think of is if you burst an oil line or something simular, what are the chances of it sprayin up onto the windshield? hmm i wonder

Got my razor handy, got some free time tomorrow, but I don't want to cut too much out... I'm gonna try to reciprocate your cut(s) but:

I bet this would also help in the performance department. Without the plenum soaking in all the heat...the air should be denser and colder. Should work to help with hp.

Sorry, finally a pic that should explain it. Really simple if you go look at it in person, you'll get the idea. Here's my grimey c4 guinea pig.

WW!

You took out quite a bit of stripping there!

I think I'll try taking a bit less than that...

TTT ...

Has anyone else tried this, and what are the results? Seems like a good free mod.

Not that I'm an expert, but I have washed plenty of motors with a distributor, even with a pressure washer, and have never had problems with water getting in the distributor.... my .02 is TAKE IT ALL OUT!

Wow im surprised to see this thread again :O

If you guys are looking for an update, so far I've had no problems at all, and we've had some seriously hard core rains here in So Cal this winter.

I'd say this is a great addition to a lower temp t-stat and fan switch, but even on it's own it seems to help. When my fan kicks on at stoplights I can put my hand out the window and feel the heat just pour out of there

Yeah I'm gonna give this a shot, not sure how much I'm gonna cut out though. How much lower did you notice your temps??

My recommendation is not to cut too close to the outside of the hood because the heat and fumes can flow out under the hood, around the windshield pillar, and into the cockpit if the window is down.

It doesn't, youd have to lean forward, put your hand out and over the hole while parked with fan going to feel it at all.

As for how much it made it cooler, well the thermostat never lets it drop bellow 187 (im using the stock temp sensor and everything for mog right now), but it does help in sitting traffic when the fan has to kick in at 225 (knocks it down to like 200 waaaay faster then bef)

good idea! I will try it...
What I do not understand is this:
you say " Once I get going on the freeway, it starts acting as a cowl induction deal, and air is rammed in."
How fresh air can go IN the engine bay if the car go in the direction of where the new opening is?
If the opening is in FRONT of the hood...
..I can't understand this cowl induction effect..
