I talked to Redl98 and he does alot of Dyno work I had the same question. The answer I got was It won't hurt but unless you got a highly modified motor but it won't help. I put a BBK 58mm on my 88 5.7 and it works fine. My thinking here is more air in, more air out. If you do got 58mm you will need to port your plenum, not a big deal...

With a stock base or a ported base, the stock throttle body is more than adequate. But with an after market base such as the TPIS big mouth, there is a need for larger flow of air, so a 52mm is recommended. The 52mm will flow 900cfm of air tested with an airfoil.

The 58mm will flow 1100cfm and is ideal for 600+hp applications. The larger TB can hinder low end performance if a larger than needed size is utilized. There are also monoblade throttle bodies that flow 1300+cfm and are recommended for 420cid or more displacement or super high hp applications.

Hey just go with the happy medium 54mm throttle body from Arizona Speed and Marine that's what I have

I would say that it depends on what you want out of your motor better throttle response at lower RPM go with the 52 if you want better flow for higher HP at the top end go with the 58 mm.
