I suspect you are talking about the two rubber bushings, sometimes called grommets that are installed a top the shock on either side of the shock tower. They ussually come with two heavy metal plates that are installed on the ooutboard side of the "grommets" so that the rubber doesn't disform as it is tightened. PS Don't overtighten the shocks and disform these bushing/grommets
I replaced shocks on 1990 Corvette a few weeks ago
I replaced the shocks on my 1990 Corvette a few weeks ago. I had never replaced shocks before. I just made note of how the old shock was installed before I took it off. The KYB shocks came with directions, but they weren't very helpful.
It was a learning experience for me. I used a floor jack and put the frame for that particular side of the car on a large block. Once I took the old shock off, the distance between the two mounts on the car changed immediately, which meant the new shock was not the right length. So, I had to put the floor jack beneath that portion of the car to raise it up to make it fit the new shock. Once I got the first shock installed, the other four were quite simple. -- Eric
