Default ???Tuning/396???

Well, finally got the motor running. Took it to get gas and back home. Never over about 3500 RPM. No codes being thrown. Big question is....is the tune on my car good enough to break it in on, or should I leave it parked till I retune. The previous tune was for hotcam/heads/headers on the stock LT4. Just a little paronoid about it.
Any help would be great.

thanks,

jeff

Can't help you with the tune, but it must drive you nuts letting it sit! Sounds like a monster

Jeff it sorta depends on your mods. But it sounds like its running pretty good now and if you are not experiencing any problems such as drivability and the PCM throwing out any DTCs. Then I would just drive it and break it in. The MAF control strategy in these cars are pretty forgiving, as long as the cam isn't too lumpy and if it drives good then go for it.

The car seems to run ok...it wont idle alot of the time. I keep having to blip the throttle to keep it running. I am just concerned about running too lean. The cam is a 233/240 576/595 @ 112 LSA.

Hook up a scanner and take a look at your fuel trims. if they're at +25%, they're at the limit of the PCMs control and you risk being too lean. If the fuel trims are fine and you're not seeing any excessive knock retard, break-in driving should be fine.

you still can drive it to break in period. My old 383LT1 SC. I drive it untuned for a long time, but I never go pass 4300rpm just to be safe.

Hey Jim how are things My guess with his cam, he is going to be on the rich side, especially with the amount of overlap that cam has there is going to be some reversion in the intake tract. The MAF will see that as additional flow and will fuel for it. This will happen especially in the idle RPM regions and just off idle as well. It should be relatively good in the midrange and upper RPMs. And as rich as I have seen some of the cars in PE, he should be good to go in that area as well.

You'll need to have the idle speed raised during the tuning process because of the cam you're running. 800/850 should do it.
