I have a 1990 L98 and have been told two of my injectors need replacing. I was also told this Vette has 21 lb injectors from the factory. Would it be best to replace these two with stock or buy
a new set and if so what size in order to improve power?
Does anyone have two stock for sale that would fit?
If they are all the originals I would suggest doing them all at one time. Go with the correct size for your application, larger will just make you run rich.
If your mileage is up there, it would probably be prudent to replace them all. If two need replacement, the chances are pretty good that the others aren't far behind. There won't be any additional labor, because getting to the two that need replacement will get you to the other six. So why not do them all at the same time?
Do not go with larger injectors. People go with larger injectors when they modify their engines and the engine needs the extra fuel. You will definitely cause your car to run rich if you change to bigger injectors without engine modification.
Fuel injectors can "fail" for several reasons:
1-they become clogged
2-they leak
3-the solenoid winding insulation fails causing low resistance readings
In the 3rd case replacement is the only option and I would replace them as a set of similar flow as the OEMs.
In case 1 & 2 the injector set can be reconditioned, cleaned, leak tested and flow tested. Rich at Cruzin Performance (link on my site) provides this service for around $100 plus shipping with 48hr shop time.
I just went throught this (I cheaped out) and took thenm out to have them cleaned and new filters put in.Car ran great for about 15 min. Wound up having to buy new ones...

I know the feeling, I've spent a fortune "saving money" in my life!

Worst part is when they went out, I couldn't figure out what the problem was, as I've replaced practically everything. Never thought for a second my "new" injectors could have gone bad. So I took it to a shop, and paid through the nose for it! BAHHH!
They are 22lb/hr injectors and you can have them sent to CruzinPerformance for servicing. Either have all of them serviced at once, or buy new ones.
I would get the Ford SVO 24 injectors, and then add an adjustable regulator to turn the pressure down. The ECM can then adjust to the higher rated injectors.
