Default What To Do Next

First- here is what I've already got- LT4 with 52mm TB, Granetelli MAF, EM long tubes, Random TECH cats, Corsa catback, K&N triple cone and talyor wires. I realize I have to get a custom program/tune but I'm trying to wait on final mods. My question is what should be done next in order. Car is used as weekend driver but want to maintain driveability and reliability. Looking at doing a cam along with the heads and intake getting ported. Also possibly changing the rear end- what would be a good set up? If I get a GM hot cam do I need the entire kit or just the cam? Looking at the 2 situations, doing everything at once to save on labor or doing things one step at a time in a correct order. Any help is appreciated.

Rip those heads off and get a stage III port job done along with getting your intake matched. Don't feel like you have to go with the hot cam. It's a great cam, but you want a cam matched to your heads.

If I get a GM hot cam do I need the entire kit or just the cam?
The springs you have should be able to support the Hot cam's lift specifications. If you get the stage III port job done, the place where you go should give you the option of upgrading your springs, etc. If it was me, I'd upgrade everything as long as you're in there. You already have roller rockers, so no need to upgrade those (unless you want to). The entire kit is for taking an LT1 to an LT4 setup (plus some).

Also possibly changing the rear end
Since you have a six speed, you may want to consider 4.10 gears (although it may be a little much if you don't track the car). From what I understand, the 4.10 gears are a match made in heaven for your stick. I have the lowly A4 and my 3.54 gears are just enough for me.

doing everything at once
Wise choice - things are best done as a "package" so you not only save on labor, but you realize the full benefits of the mods.

So I should get suggestions from where I'm getting port/polish on which cam to use- would stage III be alittle too agressive? I want a cam that isn't really that noticeable as far as knock. I guess I want to try to find the happy medium- something I can live with. Do you think the 4.10 gears would be too low? I was thinking 3.70 ish.

Yes, I would see what your head porter recommends. They will know (or should at least) the flow characteristics of your heads and should be able to pick a grind that will make the most of the flow.

I don't think a stage III is too aggressive. If you're going to get the heads ported, you might as well go with what will give you the most flow. I'd hate to only go to a stage I or II and then once the bug bites for more power have to rip them off again for more work (and yes, the bug will eventually bite).

From the sounds clips I've heard, the Hot cam doesn't have an obnxious lope to it. A lot of cam lope can be taken care of with a proper tune (don't ask me how I know).

As for gears, I hope someone with 4.10's will pipe in here as I haven't ran them and don't have any real world experience with gearing that low.

Thanks for the help- I will be getting the heads/intake worked by Precision Porting (Bob). Everyone seems to think very highly of his work.

4:10s are the way to go. My LT4 is still all stock (ahem, cough cough) but I'm SURE I'd like 4:10s.
Also, once again since my car has all GM parts and is stock cough cough, If I did the hotcam on an LT4 I'd only replace the springs and timing chain while I was in there. There are other great cams out there but for ease of install and matching of parts it's a pretty easy combination and it drives very well.

I just put 4.11s in my LT4 and from what I have seen so far...I love them! I actually get to use sixth gear now on the highway.
