Sorry, but I'm clueless as to how to work with the tensioner to get the belt off? Do I need to loosen that bolt on the front? If so, what will that do? If I put my weight on the pulley there I see the slack in the belt appear. Wouldn't that be enough to get the belt off my alternator for a replacement?
Sorry to be clueless, but could someone give me some idiot proof instructions as to how to get the belt off for an alternator replacement. Thanks alot!
Put a socket or wrench on that bolt and crank on it. It will cause the tensioner pully to move away from the belt, loosening it and allowing you to remove it(the belt).
OK, so actually tightening the bolt moves the pulley away from the belt and loosening the belt altogether . . . Is that it?
No, no, no. Don't fool with the bolt at all.
There's a 1/2" square hole in the tensioner that you stick a 1/2" drive ratchet of breaker bar in. Then you use a 1/2" drive ratchet/bar to releave the tension from the belt. Really simple.
