Haven't seen much said here on this so thought I'd ask:
With a header install, where (for LT1 cars), the cat has to be moved and has to be a new bullet style cat, what is the best position for the new cat for peak engine power/torque?
I was talking to 94STL and he is thinking it's best to put the cat right at the collector, not further back. It makes an easier install, I'd think, so I'm inclined to go that way.
Any opinions? Anyone try different ways (perhaps by accident?)
Well the BEST position for maximum power is to leave the cat on the shelf. However, a performance cat won't rob you much if any horsepower. For a cat to work it must be at a certain temperature, so you'll want to keep it as far forward as possible. This would out real well since that's where you have the most room.
