Default setting L98 ignition timing

ive had my 88 for a couple of months now but am not sure about how to set the timing. not just what the best timing advance would be, but as to actually how to set the timing. is it just like any other hei?? or do i need to do anything with the computer??? any help would be appriciated. also, the car has 2:73 gears, auto tranny, 134k on the clock, and is pretty much bone stock save for a K&N and a flowmaster after cat.

James on the distributor wire harness, there is the "Set timing" connector, it is a single weatherpak connector with a tan/blk wire. Disconnect that connector and then the ECM goes into base timing. You will want to set the base timing to 6 degrees or whatever is recommended on the emissions sticker. But I do beleive its 6 degrees. Once the timing is set, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery to clear the diagnostic code and restart.

That EST connector comes out of a thick harness below and to the right of the brake booster.

Before tackling the timing adjustment it would be beneficial to remove the "frisbee" from the water pump pulley it you haven't done so yet. Details are on my site.
