The new chevy thing is not to give out any information as the 1st of the year .
You have to join some kinda of chevy club and pay money and all the info on your car is stored on a computer , if you have a problem only the new chevy thing like AAA can access the info.
There are 15 codes to go through to find your key and any good lock smith can make a key with the right equipment.
I was lucky my lock smith is a good friend and we rolled the dice and started at 11 then 13 then 14 and then 15 and hit the big one.skiped 12 just to be diff.
It takes about 4 minutes to check each code out of the 15 possiable.

I recently had a problem with keys to! I stored the 'vette and lost the door key. Many places told me they could not make a key for various reasons. I then talked to a dealer that mentioned a different dealer with a "super" key making machine. I called that dealer and for five bucks they made me a new door key. Also they would make a new ignition key. This is from the VIN not copying the key. If you want I could get you this dealers phone number, you have show them the title though. I'm in WI, not sure if it could be done by mail some how. There should be other places that will do this. Their key machine is brand new.
Except it's called an interrogator. But yeah, that's what needs to be done. Hate to sound like the grammar police, but if you look up interigator, you won't find much out there on a google search...
The VATS Interrogator is made by Kent-Moore tools (1-800-GMTOOLS)and was/is a GM dealership "essential tool" (required by GM to have it for service departments). As to a business decision? Since I specialize in GM repairs, I just ordered one after borrowing one for the third time in 8 months, and I'm not a high-volume shop.
I gelieve MAD sells a VATS eliminator that is switchable so that you can disarm the ignition till you are ready to start the car. Later, in your spare time, you can try various resistors till you hit the one. Let me know if you want the list of resistance values.
I agree, getting a spare set of keys for my '88 was done in the first week I owned it. In my youth I've locked keys inside the car too many times to be bothered with that again. Now I always carry a set of keys in either pocket to avoid such inconveniences.
