Default Spark Plug Recommendations Needed...

Just curious which plugs you guys are running. I've got a 10:1 383 with AFR 195s in my '87 (about 500 hp at the crank).

Any recommendations? Anything i should definitely stay away from?

thanks as always!!

i should add that i'll be using a 150 hp nitrous shot at the track (probably 6 or 7 times a year).

thanks!

When your using nitrous you can't use platinum plugs. I have had the best success with using NGK tr55's they are copper core so you can run them with nitrous and they are 1/3 the price of platnium plugs. But then again im not positive that they will work on an l98 because I have an lt-1.

I really like the AC Delco R44LTS on my LT1. That's stock heat range, I would go one step colder, for which I don't really know what that would be. I know in NGK you typically go with the TR6 instead of the TR55 for nitrous applications.

Unfortunately not only do you have an L98 but you have an L98 with aftermarket heads and a different compression ratio, thus all bets are off. Have you tried contacting AFR to see what they recommend? Take whatever plug they recommend and try it out. If it works fine then go one step colder for nitrous.

thanks! i was leaning toward an NGK plug, and definitely a step colder in heat range. contacting AFR is a good idea - i'll see what they recommend.

I would just stick with A/C Delco..... Specifically rapidfires. It's what I run, granted I'm only spraying a 100 shot, but I've had no issues at all, and my gas mileage has greatly increased over the stock set of plugs. Just my 2c.

What exactly does a "colder" plug do? I've never really understood this terminology...

it is basically the plug's ability to transfer heat to the cylinder head. a colder plug will transfer heat quicker (something you'd want in a high HP set up, especially with a blower or nitrous). however, a plug that is too cold won't be able to get hot enough to burn away carbon deposits, etc. and would foul.

with heavily modified engines, it's more of a guessing game, (which is why i was looking for some input) but it's generally safer to go with a colder plug and work up if fouling is a problem.

so now i'm looking at NGK and AC / Delco

AC / Delco rapidfires #5 here. I tried the #4's but it was to cold natured for my taste. I am planning on just switching out on the days I run the NOS and use #4's.
