Default 93 LT1. How do I remove driveshaft?

Im in the middle of pulling off my driveline support beam. Ive already taken off the support beams nuts/bolts and washers. I need to remove the driveshaft to take the support beam out.

How do I get the driveshaft off?

I disconnected the two u-joint bearing straps at the transmission yoke.

If I remember right, the front of the driveshaft pulls OUT of the transmission.

However, theres no front-to-rear play in it to back the driveshaft out.

How do I remove it?

My car is a ZF6 manual. Any help would be appreciated.

Undo the yoke bolts.
Slide driveshaft towards front.
Should now have gap between diff and driveshaft.
Rotate to get angle and lower.
Pull straight out.
You should have some fluid leakage when the driveshaft is removed.

It has to slide forward some to buy the clearance you need to come out.

Hmmm. it didnt seem like it would go forwrds(even with u-joint nuts removed), but ill try that tomorrow.

Does it need to be in neutral? or should it slide forward in any gear?

It should slide forward in any gear, but if the tranny is coming out, it's best to have it in neutral.

I have to take the u-joint bearing caps off of the rear u-joint trunnion in order to get enough clearance for the u-joint trunnion to clear the saddles of the differential yoke -- then, I can remove the driveshaft.

Hey also mark the points on the driveshaft with a sharpie so you know exactly where to put it back.

I don't know if this is required but I wanted to make sure when I put it back in, it was balanced withing the components (rear end, tranny).

Driveshaft STILL will not slide forward within the transmission.

It wont even budge a milimeter. My 2 yoke straps are unfastened.

Any idea what gives? Its in neutral and Ive rotated it to a new position, still no luck....

Is this something that is supposed to slide easy or do you have to really muscle it.

By the way, my old roomate pulled the driveshaft on this car in 2002.

He doesnt live here any more

Mine was easy as pie when I switched my D36 to a D44. Did take a bit of rotating of the Differential to get clearance to pull the driveshaft out. But nothing too tricky, would have been a breeze if I wasn't only 18" off the ground in my garage.

I'm not talking about the driveshaft yoke straps -- take the needle bearing caps off of the trunnion where they fit in the saddle of the differential yoke -- don't let the needle bearings fall out.
That will give you the clearance you need.

It ended up coming out very easily. I took a screwdriver and, using the nut on the end of the differential as a backstop, pushed against the driveshaft yoke. It dislodged with very little pressure.
