Overdrive relay
Does anyone know of the part # for the overdrive relay in an '85 with 4+3? I am trying to figure out what is going on with my trans. Sometimes after my car gets up to temperature pushing the overdrive switch to engage overdrive does not work. If I leave the switch turned on the car sometimes shifts into overdrive after a couple minutes or so. The light does not come on until it goes into overdrive. I hear a lot of talk about the wires around the relay but I am not sure where the problem might lie. I was experiencing occasional hard shifting where I would really have to slam the car into gear to get it to go but I fixed that problem by draining the fluid and replacing it with Penzoil Syncromesh fluid.

I doubt its the relay, but its the same part # as your fuel pump relay. You can switch the plugs for testing it before buying a new one.
The computer won't allow the overdrive to engage until the coolant temp reaches 140*. The dash sensor is different than the one used for the overdrive, so it's usuallly showing 145 by the time it lets me shift.
