92 VSS sensor help please!! Which one?? Gear change..
Ok.. I changed my rear end gears from 3.07's to 3.73's, and now to 3.55's. I have a 15 tooth drive gear in the trans, whch means I need a 42 tooth driven, but which speed sensor do I need? After looking on a few web sites, I have found that there are 2, but GM says there are 3... Anyone have knowledge of the gm part numbers, and which tooth count driven gear they are for?? Thanks in advance...
Chris..
I ASSUME it's an automatic from the original ratio being 3.07. If so the VSS is a 10456092. The 42 tooth green driven gear is spec'ed for a 3.45 rear. The 3.54 takes a 25513050, purple, 43 tooth driven gear. I can't nail down the exact usage of that VSS. I believe it changes at 39 or 40 teeth.
Yes.. Auto...
Thanks for the part number.....
I did change my drive gear in the trans from a 17 tooth to a 15 tooth to make the speedo right with the 3.73s. That is why I have to use a 42 tooth driven for my config. I never changed the VSS the last time, but I did notice that the gears did not engage properly when I installed it. As far as I know, the only difference in the VSS's is the offset...
Oh.. just some FYI.. don't always believe the gear colors... I have a green 45 tooth GM gear...
Thanks

That VSS is still the same as you had with the 3.07s. You are right about the offset.
I show a 45 tooth gear should be light blue. Has it darkened and changed color with heat, age, and exposure to trans fluid? Is it for this series of gears with the hole in it? Whatever.

RACE ON!!!
The gear is pretty new.. less than 2500 miles... Kinda confused the local trans shop too.. All the paperwork I have found says that the color should be blue, but it ain't It is the one with the "D" shaped hole...

I guess it pays to count the teeth (who wouldn't anyhow?).
