Default Starter for 86 Coupe

I may have to replace my starter. If I do, I may as well upgrade to a hi-torque one. What year model should I buy if I end up needing to relacing it?

I used one of the starters for an 89 in mine. I have an 85 coupe. Worked fine.....

I went to a local Alternator/Starter rebuild company and bought a new one for about $120 specific to the car. You have to be sure of the # of teeth on your flywheel and if the bolt pattern is straight or offset.
I know my 350 block could take either type.

Will, I used a CVR on mine, same as the link below. If I remember correctly, Larry Dickey also used this one with good results on his build. The nice thing is it has an adjustable mount for either flexplate and gives you some breathing room for your headers
