Default Does anybody know?

I just replaced the OPTI, water pump, intake gaskets, plugs, wires, and coil on my 94 and I have a bolt left over. It is a 1/4-20 X 1 1/4" long with a 3/8' head. I can't find a hole for it. Does anyone know where it belongs? Thanks

gee... too long to be an opti bolt; those are rather short, really.

Not a balancer bolt, not stout enough.

I wonder if it's for the fuel injector rail, maybe... I would check intake manifold... it's not long enough for the throttle body, tho...

Yes, this is quite puzzling. I got a mirror and checked the opti bolts(all there). I have looked all over with a mirror and a flashlight and I just can't find a place for this. Of course it doesn't help that all this work was done over the period of a month. My memory isn't what it used to be. I was in no hurry with snow on the ground. However the car runs good and there is nothing rattling or leaking so how important can it be?

Theory has it that if you'll just remove the oil cap and drop it in, eventually it'll get back to the right place...... I'll scratch my head a little and look around on my car and see if it jogs my memory. I've had all of that stuff off and on three times.

I'm assuming that since you were so precise in your dimensions that it is definitely not a 6mm bolt w/ a 10mm head then, right? Otherwise, my best guess at this point is possibly a timing cover bolt? The power steering pump to bracket bolts are metric and I just didn't see much else with similar specs.

I don't recall removing any timing cover bolts and don't know why I would have, but it does seem about the right size. I will take a closer look. Thanks

Well, you havent properly repaired something unless you have parts left over. Looks like a power steering mount bolt to me. But ive only done it once.

I can only generalize on this one. Since the bolt has oil deposits, I would venture to say that it came off the front of the engine, and probably not from the Intake area....

That's right, you wouldn't have, would you. Except for the three opti bolts which double as cover bolts too. But they're longer than that, looking at my spare set of cover bolts. The P/S pump to bracket bolts on mine have a 10mm head so that would seem to rule them out, if you even had those out. I'll continue to ponder as I install CV boots on the good looking (and single) neighbor lady's Honda....

Could it be the short lower water pump bolt that sits just slightly above and behind the idler pully on the driver's side? Its kinda hidden from view when the pump is installed, and may have fallen out unnoticed while you were torquing the other three.

Oops, I meant to say the belt tensioner rather than the idler pulley.

Yeah, it looks like a water pump bolt.

The water pump bolts are 3/8" with a 9/16"head. This bolt is only a 1/4" with a 3/8" head. I'll keep looking. Thanks
