Default Dana 36 Question

I have just put together a 383 around 450HP and adding 150 shot NX System. 2400 Converter with 373 in the rear. What should I consider as an upgrade to the Dana 36?

Cryo-ed Dana44 at LEAST...
You hook that monster once and your dana36 with 3.73's is going to wave bybye to you. The lower the gear, the thinner the metal between teeth inside. Going up to a Dana44 gives you a larger differential to start, so even with 3.73 gears it is quite thicker than the Dana36. On the other hand, with a dead hook and if you launch with the nitrous, you'll be slamming over 700LB/TRQ to the pavement. Even a D44 might not enjoy that for long. You can have the parts cryo-treated for more strength, but I think you should also look into getting some stronger halfshafts as they can twist with that much force too.

Another option is to go with a custom ford 9" rear, but that would be mucho $$..

I would recommend NOT putting hard earned money into your dana 36. Alot of us have, only to break it and upgrade to the 44. My "been there" advise is to put the money you are willing to spend on the 36 toward a 44. For me, a solid axle is out of the question. 44 is not bulletproof but holds up pretty well on the auto cars. Choice is yours but that is my .02
