Default Vibration in front end

I have a 93 and I took my top off for the 1st time, at low speeds I feel a vibration coming from the front left side. But With the top on, the car rides fine. Could the vibration be from the body changing shape with the top off or is it enhancing a problem that is there all the time?

welcome to the vibrating ride... and you don't even need to drop a coin in.

Once the top comes out, the chassis commenses to shake like a cheap topless dancer. More accurately, the structure at the front starts to cantilever at the firewall.

There are some things you can do:

1) never remove the top (I know, smart *** me)
2) Targa Truss by R-D Racing. This is a open top replacement so you get the strength and the open air!
3) R-D Racing x-brace. This goes under the car and ties the 4 corners of the chassis together. Standard on the Converable and Z07 models.

The vibrations are very unsettling. The wheel bounces... it's really poor. Think of it this way, if you can feel it in your hands, think of what is happening to the effiency of your suspension.

Thanks, I was worried that I had a bad suspension problem.

I have the x-brace and the cross brace and still experience the shaking to the point that I just won't take the top out anymore.

I have no x brace and the car doesn't vibrate at all. I can feel both the Z51 88 and the 95 are not as rigid with the top off but I get no vibration. Could you have a tire that is flat spotted or that has a belt that slipped. This does not sound normal, even my 85 never did this.

How old are your shocks cause they should be dampening these vibrations out.

Just bought the car, so I dont know how old the shocks are, dont think there is a flat spot because the car is smooth with the top on.

Mitchell,

Give me a call sometime. I'd like to learn more about your set-up if your still having a problem with the Cross-frame in place. I'm assuming that you are using Our Cross-frame or are you using a factory set-up?

Thanks,
Dave
