The 421 LIVES!!!!!!

I had a chance to put about 100 miles on it, and all I can say is..........wow! This thing is just amazing. I'm all about running a new motor fairly hard to get the rings seated, but it's really difficult to find an opportunity to maintain any kind of speed in this San Fran Bay Area traffic. I kept it in 2nd in the brief times I spent around town, and drive (not OD) on the freeways; but I darn sure painted stripes on every onramp I could find though
I think the initial breakin is pretty well done now, so it's all about keeping the oil changed regularly for the next 1000 miles or so and then moving over to synthetic. The build itself turned out real well, not a drop of oil anywhere or any vacuum problems..........the only issue was a code 33 when I first took it out and started to really build some good cylinder pressure. We replaced the relays and bumped the TPS up to .64 and that seemed to take care of it until I did a little 3/4 throttle launch and full throttle run up to about 70 or 80 on a private road near my shop last nite. I think I'll move the base timing up a bit and give the TPS some more voltage and see what happens. I didn't have any MAF issues before (even on the nitrous), so I'm pretty sure there's just a sensor conflict in the ECM that needs resolving.I'm an old time SBC hotrodder from the 60s, but I've never had anything even remotely close to this........it feels like my old L98 motor on it's 100 shot x 2 or 3 (or more), it's just incredible!
I can't wipe this silly grin off my face
I'll see if I can get some pics and maybe even a short video clip in the next week or two, but the bad news is I go down for some pretty serious neck surgery tomorrow morning and I'll be outta the box for awhile (maybe I should say outta the driver's seat)
Damn the timing...........I want to drive my car!!!!!!! Here's the motor on a stand just before it went in:

Good luck on the surgery. Holy Mackeral, I did not know you were facing that. But there is no doubt you are motivated for a fast recovery so you can slide into the driver's seat again.
Iam an old time rodder too, but the stroker 409 bowtie block motor is the first in about 20 years. Hope to get it close this spring. Finally got enoungh $$$$ to do it right.
Best of luck on your surgery. Hope you can soon get back behind the wheel and lay down some strong times.
