I am a thousand miles away from my car and it is being flatbedded as we speak. I was just on the phone with the tow truck guy and he told me that he wrapped the hooks around the control arms to get the car up on the bed. I can't remember if this is a good idea or not!
Mine was flat-towed two times, both with hooks under the a-arms. Havn't done an alignment yet (this was fairly recently) but it survived. Make sure he ties it down, and uses 4x4's to get it on/off the truck.
On an '89, there are actually to closed loops down there to hook into at the front of the car. The driver told me they were there for that purpose and he pulled it onto the bed that way- didn't have to touch any components at all.
I've been towed twice. And I hate them putting there hook on my A-Arms. I've been looking for towing eyes. Like they use on race cars. So next time they can pull from there.
Edit: Since my car is lowered its nearly impossable to hook them up with eyes.
BAD. I just had mine towed 2 nights ago, and the guy told me how the Vette is supposed to be hooked up on the flatbed. He showed me where the hooks go, and they are part of the fram. Also, he explained how easily the A Arms etc can be bent by an incompetent person. BE CAREFUL and get the towing comanies name and get your Vette checked out. Simple insurance.

There's built in tow eyes on our cars, straight from the factory.
You can see them next to the wheels. In the back they're right next to the dog bones.
Any decent tow company will have the special t-fittings that go in them. If they don't know what they are talking about, get someone else.
