I'm toying with the idea of retiring my current engine and bringing some new life to my 84. My current engine is leaking and burning oil pretty good (about 1 quart per tank of gas), and I just noticed what sounds like a slight valvetrain tick. I'm going to take it to a local Vette shop here and see what they say about my engine. It's got about 160,000 miles on it. Anyone know anything about chevy-350-engines.com? They have a couple of engines there that seem like they may work. Maybe throw on a x-ram intake and stay with the same basic injection setup. Any ideas or suggestions here?
The intake is the most restricive part of your crossfire setup. They can be made to perform pretty well but you've got to know what you're doing. Essentially the short block doesn't matter. A 350 is a 350 for the most part, the quality of the internals will be your biggest concern. The power is made in the cylinder heads and camshaft selection. Going with a really radical cam and cylinder heads won't do much good with the completely stock intake setup.
The X-ram is a good place to start on opening up the restriction. Just do your research first and choose a total package. An engine that is rated for 500 HP with a carb just isn't going to perform like that under the crossfire in stock configuration. The best thing to do would be to pick a HP goal and I'm sure the crossfire people can tell you how to get there.
The x-ram is a decent option it added 1500rpm of power to th top end of my mostly stock 350. I reused it on the new 396 stroker with larger injectors and seems to be fine.
