Default turbocharger on l98

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I haven't been able to find it. I have a stock 90 l98 and i was curious if i could run about 8-10 lbs of intercooled tuned boost to it. I was looking at a T-70 turbo or something about that size. I just want to know if the motor can hadle it? with the proper tuning of course. also what do I have to worry about the drive train? And of course any other problems that might come up. Thanks for the help and if this has been covered could you point me in the right direction?

What condition is it in? How many miles on it? Is it a manual? If your Vette has an automatic, it will have the Dana 36 rear end, more than likely, the rear might need to be upgraded to a Dana 44 like the manuals trans has.

Just expect your head gasket not to last forever if you will be boosting all the time aka driving it hard. I was spraying a lot and drove hard and finally blew mine.

Yes, the proper tuning is a must!

it has about 120,000 but the motor only has 20,000 on it. that why im even considering putting the turbo on it. It is a 6 speed....so that means it has the dana 44 and they are stronger?? how much hp can they hold up to?? I won't be driving it hard all the time.....hopefully.

Yes. The Dana 44 can support, hold up to 600-700 hp. Once you drive it hard, you may get addicted and do it all the time. Be careful.

have any specs on the motor you built for it? stock rebuild .030" over? hyper, cast , or forged pictons... compression ratio.. all determining factors when planning out the tuirbo system.. If your interested I have a brand new T-70 with a .96 housing on it.. I was going to use this on my turbo project, but i plan on running much higher then 8-10 pounds of boost and I will be revving much higher.. so i went with something a little bit bigger.. this would be a great turbo for the L98 which does not spin the revs.. it is brand new never installed still in the box.. I will let it go with the T4 flange for the turbine inlet and the 4 bolt round downpipe flange for $550.00 plus shipping from 27604. thats about what they go for buy it now on ebay, but then ya don't get the flanges you'll need and the .68 housing that comes on them is much too small for our cars.. your'll choke the engine. this turbo is good for about 840 FWHP and would work well! let me know if your interested!

the t-70 would work great with your low rpm l-98.
PWR 6x10 intercooler, Racegate,7749 ecm conversion.
Hope you enjoy fabrication!
Or you could drive it 6-7 hours to my shop and I'll call you when it's done.
How do you feel about manual brakes and battery relocation? I've been kicking around a new placement for everything.

BTF.. that T70 is compact man.. you could put it numerous places.. I almost miss the physical size of it compared tot he spread out compressor housing on the Greedy T88.. it is the same size wheel but much bigger housing.. little is sometimes better..

Don't some wealthy MKIV Supra owners use T88s for single turbo setups for 30 grand APU+++++++++++++++ performance packages? Thats a lot of turbo for a little baby 3.0L I6. I bet its laggy in the city like jet lag, but once it spools or when you are in the highway cruising at 70 mph at full spool, you can walk, or run from anyone. Bad thing is you may have 1000 rwhp but not really reach it till you are near/at/past redline. You'll probably still run 12s in the 1/4th but with the mph equivalent to a 9 second pass. It could potentially look like a malfunctioning clock at the strip and/or make you look like a bad driver with a 2.5 60'. Just my .02 cents

I'm fairly sure it is a stock .030 over, not sure what the pistons are. I didn't get the rebuild done it was already in the car when i bought it. I was thinking about a Garrett T62-1. It looks like it would spool faster and be more efficient in 1/2 - 3/4 throttle and lower rpms. but i can't find any of those cheap, so i might end up going with the T70.

I would like to have you do it....but I want to go through the headach of it for some reason. And I don't have the moeny to spend on that, already going to be used in the rest of the parts I'm going to put on. Thanks though, and if i get in a bad spot ill keep it in mind.
