Default Need a few more horses....

I currently have a 94 6spd vette with about 85,000 miles on it. Mostly stock except for K&N air filter, and the hypertech power programmer with the lower themostat.
My question is how can i squeeze some more power out of the car? Maybe another 30hps without doing any major mods.
Also i was looking at getting the hurst shortthrow shifter but i was told that the reverse **** thing would be lost. is this true? thanks alot

1) Roller rockers are the trick you want for more power.

2) who cares about the reverse lock out? I dare you to put it into reverse at 70mph. It just won't happen. GM cared so little they ditched the damned thing in 1995.

Check out this link... http://www.ws6.com/mycar.htm

Most of the common "early-on" mods are dyno-tested here.

Click the bang-for-the-buck link at the bottom of that page.

Roller rockers will definitely give you a nice boost as well...as much as 10-15hp.

Long-tube headers (if you can run them) are usually good for 15-20hp as well, and are a common early-on mod.

RR's & LT headers should get you that 30hp.

Have fun...Scott

It involves removing all the intake, timing cover, timing gears, dropping the oil pan, removing the radiator, lifters, pushrods, old cam, installing the new one, lining up the timing gears, and putting back on everything you took off lol. Then you have to break in the new cam and change the oil etc.

To some people, its not that major of a mod. But as far as most people are concerned it is a pretty hefty job.

A friend and I changed the cam on an 85 Vette (which included taking off the hood and everything listed above) in about two days.

Let's see, how did GM get an additional 30 horsepower out of the LT1?
bigger cam
bigger valves
more compression
different heads
different intake
roller rockers

Real horsepower is not easy or cheap.

yes
RRs are very easy top install..
best bang for buck, that is if you install yourself, is the lt4 hotcam kit which comes with the 1.6 RRs, lt4 springs, and the hot cam! thats good for around 30 and also if you do headers with that or soon after... then thats about 60 hp right there!

I installed my own headers and will eventually install cam as well.
headers are pretty tough... but the cam is really really hard given no mechanical knowledge...but get all the directions and all the parts and its not as hard as it could be..

headers= about 20 hrs for the untrained person. EM 1 3/4 headers $425 send them to me I can ceramic coat them for $188..thus saving you $..but you also have to buy high flow cats and pay for exhaust welding and work another $400-$500.

RRs by them selves=$275 and about 1-3 hrs or so of work

hot cam kit- $475 hot cam, RRs, lt4 springs. i project my car being down for a month working about 1-3 hrs each night during the week and about 4-5 hrs on the weekends.

as for the hotcam kit and headers the best thing would be to do them together! this would maximize both of them.
you see a gain with either alone but you really need them both to see a huge gain.. like i said about 60 hp

good luck your friend
Sean
and let me know if you want me to coat your headers!
