Default Help with a 96 Lt1

I have contacted a few forum members about getting a tune for my vette. I was wondering if any of you could help me out. I will be installing EM long tubes and a cam. The headers will not be in for 4-6 weeks so I am not in a rush, just want to line everything up.

Thanks for the reply. I am wanting someone to flash a chip for me. If that is the correct term? Everyone I have spoken to says that they do not have the software needed yet.

PS. I see you have a black 96, NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE.... .............

1996 is an OBDII comp. Youll need to get LT1 Edit. Contact your closest corvette tuner. and its usually about $500.

Thanks 96...

You would need Lt1 edit... it it locked to your vin number. But once you have it you can "share" files...

LT1 edit is 100 times better than flashin chips because it is more exact because they tune it on the dyno!

Default Shops with OBD-II capable LT1_Edit?

Are there many professional shops available with an OBD-II capable LT1_Edit for use with their chassis dyno? The professional version does not lock itself to a specific PCM, like the individual copies require. Most people I know use TunerCat, but they all have OBD-I, or have converted their OBD-II into OBD-I.

For those who don't feel comfortable making calibration changes to their PCM, or even accessing it for that matter, taking their Corvette to professional tuner would be another option vs the learning curve.

If your cam is anything like GM's Hotcam then you'll need to bump the idle up to about 875rpm.

Fuel and ignition curves will NEED to be done on the dyno.

Seemingly identical setups need quite different PCM tunes (mostly on Power Enrichment and the high RPM Ignition timing). Although the differences aren't drastic, they will add up to 5-10 RWHP. A generic tune will still provide satisfaction, however.

If you are doing this on an automatic transmission then I would highly recommend LT1 Edit. Individual preference and torque converter selection are major factors in this area of tuning. No mail order tune will be "just right".

Tuner Cat will be releasing their OBD2 LT1 software soon. So just hang on as its going to be a lot less $$ than LT1 edit.

Below is an e-mail I just received from TunerCat. I was asking them when TunerCat would be compatible with my 1996 Corvette LT1 (OBDII). I hope their one month estimate is about right. Nice that they do not lock you in with one PCM like LT1_Edit. Carputing will need to become more competitive to win my business.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our OBDII Tuner program.

The OBDII Tuner is now available for some vehicles and others are planned for release shortly. Support for the following vehicles is now available:

OBD2_07 1996 - 1997 Vortec Trucks (4.3L, 5.7L, 7.4L)
OBD2_06 1998 - 2000 Vortec Trucks (4.3L, 5.7L, 7.4L)
OBD2_02 1999 - 2000 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_01 1999 - 2001 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_03 2001 - 2002 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)

The following are scheduled for release early this year:

OBD2_04 2003 - 2004 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L)
OBD2_08 1996 - 1997 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LT1
OBD2_09 1997 - 1998 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_05 2002 - 2003 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1
OBD2_10 2004 Corvette

The OBDII Tuner package sells for $379.95 and includes the following:

OBDII Tuner Program on CD
OBDII/RS232 Interface
OBDII Cable
RS232 Cable
Your choice of one Vehicle Definition File

Additional Vehicle Definition Files can be purchased for $79.95 each.

As with all our software, the OBDII Tuner program is not VIN locked to a single vehicle.

We expect to have the Vehicle Definition File for the '96/97 LT1's available in about 30 days.

Best regards,
TC
