Default How to remove the mem-cal?

Alrighty then, as I wait the few days it will take for my service manual to get here, and the Probst book doesn't tell me how, what is involved with removing the mem-cal (out of my 1992 Vert) so I can send it out to get upgraded?
Should I be paranoid about something bad happening, like it getting lost in shipping?

Out under the hood on the drivers side, above the cruise control is a 'box' called the ECM (Engine Control Module).

Disconnect your battery.
Remove three nuts that hold the ECM to it's mount. Flip it over and there is a cover on the bottom held on by about 6~8 little screws.
Remove them.
Under the cover there is a little retangular blue box. That is the memcal.
On each side is a little tab that you can push over to release the MemCal. Push them BOTH over to unlock the MemCal. They will push it up out of the socket a little.
Gently (tug) on one end of the blue box and then the other.
It will come out.
That's your MemCal.

It would be 'best' to have a spare one to drive the car with while that one is sent out. Your car won't run without it.

Call Superior Chevrolet (Jeff Kopp) and order a spare one. (About ~45~50 bux) He will need your VIN number OR just tell him if your car is an auto or manual and he won't need the VIN #.

Leave your original one in the car and send the spare out to have it programmed.

Drive until it comes back and then use the steps above to swap it out.

Btw, It's idiot proof and will only go back in ONE way. You can't put it in there backwards so don't worry about that.

Good luck with it.

Great and thanks - especially for the Superior reference, I know I got my water pump from him back around October.

Now, should I ask for 2? One for the Track, and one for the daily use and better street manners?

You only need one good one.

But getting a mail order tune 'just right' is impossible.

Only way to get it 'spot on' is do it yourself which will entail a lot of study, time and a few bucks for the tuning software/hardware.

Look over in the Scan/Tune section and read the stickies there and they will give you an idea of what is involved.

I'll hop over the Scan & Tune shortly.
It appears Jeff has been promoted over at Superior, he is no longer doing parts
But, Good for him!
