DTC's
I recently had my timing chain cover replaced on my 94 6spd, on the way home the car seemed like it was running VERY rough. I put it away and didn't drive it for a while (I had the cover replaced a few months ago and weather hasn't been cooperating). I took out my Ease scanner a couple of weekends ago and did a scan on it while it was idling.
This scan produced two DTC faults:
099 - Tachometer Output Fault
097 - 4k Pulses PER Mile Fault
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting this? I have no idea what either code is really referring to. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Patrick

I can't find the two DTCs you mention for the 94 Vette in my OBD1 Ease scan tool DTCs, but my Personal version GM OBD1 is pretty old. What version are you using? Send copies of the scan files to me by email and I'll load them in the Pro version and have a look. I rep for Ease and have both the Pro and Personal version OBD1 and OBD2. My Pro OBD1 version is on my other laptop, I''ll see if I can find the DTCs and some info on it and let you know.
You list
099 - Tachometer Output Fault
097 - 4k Pulses PER Mile Fault
If your 94 is a very late production model the two codes you mention could be covered in the 95 Vette DTC specs. See Bat Auto's ECM/PCM codes pages for the 95 at http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/95_57P.shtml
The 95 spec. doesn't list a 099 but it has 97 & 98:
97 VSS output signal showed incorrect potential voltage at PCM for 26 seconds.
98 Tach output signal showed incorrect potential voltage at PCM for 26 seconds.
It sounds like the "mechanic" may have messed up some wiring or grounds. If the VSS Vehicle Speed Sensor and Tach are not being seen properly by the PCM it might be a wiring/ground issue or the PCM may have been affected during the "fix".

I am using Ease v3.0.9.2. I will email you the scan here in a few minutes.
I'll take a look at that link, but I think my 94 is a pretty (like first few hundred) early run.
The guy who worked on it is a pretty reputable guy, but I'm wondering if he sort of farmed out the work to one of his juniors. Replacing the timing valve cover isn't difficult, but it's time consuming and messy! And - if you don't have garage access like me - expensive
Anyway, I'll get that scan to you asap! Thanks again
