Default Leaking brake fluid pressure sensor???

My 87 vert is leaking brake fluid out of the pressure sending device! This sensor is attached at the master cylinder and connected to wire that gives the warning light on the dash.

On the device there is a hole between the two protruding electrodes that connect to the wire. The dealer assures me the hole is supposed to be there. My brake fluid leaks out freely, the light on the dash comes on indicating no brake fluid and the pedal indicates this is true as well.

The connecting wire is seated in a rubber boot. Could this be designed to plug the hole? The boot is badly worn??

Thanks for any ideas!

I have never heard of a pressure switch leaking.

I would replace the switch. They are not all that expensive.

I had this exact problem. Got a rebuilt master cyl. It was leaking like you say from day 1. Not too bad at first but got worse and worse. Finally I went to the dealership and bought the little white switch you are talking about and it did not help. There was an internal leak in the MS and fluid just happens to leak from this hole. You can try to replace the switch but I think you will be wasting your $. Let us know how it turns out.

You need a new mastercylinder or rebuild the one you have. Your mastercylinder is leaking internally on the sealing rings of the front to rear pressure piston.

Sensor is not leaking.....when fluid gets to the sensor it should set off the warning light in the dash to alert you that the master cyl is leaking and needs to be rebuilt/replaced. The sensor is not meant to hold pressure or brake fluid.

Sounds like a new master cylinder to me! I did try to replace the switch-continued to leak. What you say makes perfect sense.

Many thanks!
