I have taken the headlamp motor apart, because the motor runs on, and runs when you connect up the battery.
I thought it would be a bushing problem, but the bushes are brass and seem fine. So I have greased and reassembled the motor and tomorrow will refit it. My question is, what causes the motor to stop running in a good unit. Where is the voltage unapplied? (if thats a word)
I've heard that there are limit switches somewhere in the assembly that turn off power at either end of travel but have no details as I've not had to go there yet.
i think the headlamp module controls this its a box mounted on the left front inner fender well that says GUIDE make sure there is no corrosion and that your conections are tight..
i don't know for sure but i have had it happen on my 89 the module controls each light even though its a single unit... i simply unplugged mine made sure everything was clean and reinstalled and it has worked ever since.. that was over a year ago..
Three relays on the drivers side front wheel well under a cover ( on my 86 ). You can switch them around (they are all the same) to see if thats the problem with the one motor. I think the relays are about 15 or 20 buck at the chevy dealer.

OK, - well I'm screwed on this one, Gonna take the good one apart to see if I can learn something. Not yet though, this is a seriously damaged car, (not mine) - I'm gonna stick this problem on the backburner for awhile. Plenty more stuff to fix.
Thanks for the help though, I have bookmarked the thread and will come back to it. Thanks all for your contributions.
