I need some front brake pads badly on my LT4. I called around and the original equipment AC Delco's are like $220. I dont have that $$ to spend right now. Are there any cheaper pads that are just as good as the originals. And what is the proper technique for breaking in new pads.
Also what year did they make the ZR1 brakes standard, and is that why its so expensive.

Hawk HPS or EBC green.
J55 calipers became standard in 95. The pads are the same for the J55 and JL9 calipers. Just the throat is a different width and the calipers are a bit larger in size overall.
MAM has OEM for 89-96 front, $129; they also have non-OEM for $79. It's a little cheaper and I'm sure other's can provide advice on other places to look.
Raybesto makes a good product and can be found at Pep Boys. The PG series is what they call Professional Grade and is a very good pad. If you would like your wheels to stay cleaner you might want to try the Quiet Stop ceramic pads. Either one should cost less than OE.

The dealer is kicking your ***, my buddy is the parts manager at a chevy dealership. I bought pads for my 93 from him o.e.m. pads $40.00
gotta love the corvette tax.
I like my Hawk HPS. They aren't that great cold, but on the second stop they are great. The first stop takes more peddle pressure, but it isn't so bad that it is dangerous or anything.

I got the PFC z rated from autozone, about $200 for 4, but free lifetime replacement. Grip great when warm (much better than stock), but will squeak if you don't heat them up every 2 weeks or so. If you are planning on autocrossing at all i'd definately reccomend them.
