i got a price to redo my 113d heads $2000 for labor and rebuild. true or false?? or should i buy new heads?? but i have 80,000 miles.street only no track. will i hurt anything if i put better heads??
It is possible to put that much money in a head. Easy to do when your mechanic charges a high hourly rate. Your money will be better spent on a new set of heads. Which head is debatable but most will agree that 2k is too much money to invest in stock 113 heads.
You can find a lot better heads for almost 1/2 that price. I'd also reconsider anything else you may have that place do for you if they feel it necessary to charge that much to "rebuild" a set of heads.
rebuild the heads and labor to take the top half of the engine apart. he said it's $500-$600 to redo the heads that means $1400 is the labor.
I wish to change my answer. $500-600 is a fair price if new guide liners and springs are install with the valve job. The $1400 labor figure . I am in the wrong business

He's out of his mind on the labor. I'd say $1400 TOTAL for the whole job assuming 500-600 for the work on the heads.
$1400 for labor is way to high. At $70/hr that would be 20hours. BS its an 6-8 hour job for a decent mechanic and 12hours for a nitwhit. I would be looking for another shop that isnt trying to charge you a Corvette tax....As for the heads. spend $895-$1000 on some performance heads and Ebay those 113's for $350....
I just bought a new set of AFR 180 heads fully ported (combustion chambers, exhaust ports and intake ports), 2.02 Intake and 1.60 exhaust for $1333 delivered from JEG's. That was complete including guide plates.
Why the rebuild? The '91 has the best of the 113's and shouldn't need a whole lot of work. $1300 seems about right if shop labor is $70 - $75/hr, but it this isn't a difficult job - take off a bolt, drink a beer; take off another bolt, have another beer - 3 cases max.

From time of order to front door 1 week!
I have a set of Dart IE's fully ported and polished...shipped for 1335. You can definately get some nice stuff for 1400 or a little less.
the reason i was asking is the car feels like it's falling on it's face at 3900rpms. and valve float was 1 of the reasons that came up. i have a new fuel pump that i bought from napa that i don't trust so i'm going to look into that.

def check that out along with the fuel filter and all that jazz. What is your inline pressure??
i havent noticed any fuel pressure drop when driving but i really never checked when going through the gears. i really don't think it's valve float. also what do you mean by inline pressure???
If t were me, I'd try and locate the sorce of the problem. If after fixing it you still want more, you could build a motor while you keep yours running, and pay someone that same amount of labor or less and have it installed. If you do heads, you'll want a cam: If you cam it, etc etc.
Of course I've never had the common sense to leave a good running car alone, either! Good Luck!
