Default '96 Auto Trans question

Just bought my first Vette...'96 with A4 trans.(woohoo!!) and love it so far; just got back from the N. GA mountains testing the suspension etc, of course
This thing handles superbly, so much better than my previous Z28s and Supra..........but I am having a tranny problem. If not in OD, the trans seems to come out of gear, and will not brake the engine at all when slowing down......also, I put it in low in a parking lot, and going very slowly, let off the throttle & felt a shimmy for a fraction of a second...almost felt like running over the little 5-6 speed bumps placed closely together that you encounter on rural roads
coming up to a stop....did the exact same thing in second, and has every time I've tried it....otherwise it shifts great and did excellent up & down the mountains (with the exception of the downshifting problem). Car has 51k on it, tranny fluid looks good, although I haven't changed it myself yet....will probably do that this weekend........sorry this was long-winded, but anyone have any suggestions/advice? I am familiar with the 4L60E tranny in my Z, but are these trannies different? Never once had a problem with the Z. Any assistance appreciated!

Thanks!

BTW, just found the search works finally....possibly the torque converter lock-up solenoid??

Jeff

I was going to say it was electronic in nature. I like the TC solinoid.

I would also make sure that the harnesses are all secure and clean.

I agree sounds like a torque converter lock up situation...

Are you tapping the brake before you let up?

I would think it would be kicking a code...

The overrun clutch and/or overrun sprag are the problem here.

Thanks for the replies! Now to research the overrun clutch....don't think the ol' Haynes manual will cover that one!

Thanks again,

Jeff

While it could be mechanical and/or electical in nature, I'd do what you said - change the fluid. Complete change if possible. Old fluid has a tendency to cause shudder in transmission, especially if it's been overheated. I hope it's just the fluid for you, as it sure would be a cheap fix. Good luck with it, and let us know what you find.
