OK, the LT1 cuts off at 5800 rpm. Is there a set of mods where you'd consider changing that? If the opti is replaced with a dynatech, is that good enough? If so, how high?

I upgraded to the LT4 coil and mine is set at 6500 rpms so I can take advantage of the LT4 hot cam. I'm worried about running it up that high though
You need tougher springs and other valvetrain parts to really allow you to change the limiter. Changing it with stock springs is not smart, you'll hit valve float and youre screwed.
But the limiter is set in the computer, you'd have to go in to change that.

I raised mine to 6000,on the 1-2 shift and 5900 on the 2-3shift .
The lt1 with 1.5 rr's will encounter ballgalling at 6400 rpm. Hypertech has a chart that explains where u can safely raise your rev limiter, but i think it depends on the yr of your car. For instance,. .the chart states that a 96 can be raised to 6400 , but the same chart says that a 94-95
can only be raised to 6200 safely, and the rule is, to shift at least 100rpm before u hit the rev limiter. I have the stock cam in my car, and along with drive train mods and headers , the only internal mod that i have is an upgrade to the 1.6rr's . my car was dynotuned by Ed Wright automotive , better know as FASTCHIPS. They are the ones that decided the shift points that i mentioned at the start of this reply. give them a call , and they can help u out with an answer.

I am getting SKI_DWN_IT to reburn a factory mem-cal for me. I have upgraded springs thanks to PP&C's Stage III heads I had done a little while back. I have an LPE 211 cam and some other tweaks from stock.

I'm having Jesse (ski_dwn_it) do my "remote" tune. I do not want to put any real mileage on the car until I get the mem-cal redone, his experience will help.
