I posted some questions about breaking in a hot cam a while ago in an LT1 and a few people recommended driving it around town for a little while... I just got in a cam degree kit from comp cams and they say to rev the engine to around 2000 rpm with the car parked for 30 minutes. Any diffference in results between these two techniques?
Also I'm planning on putting in my EM LT headers while doing the cam swap... will the coating on them burn up during the cam break in? I've read of other people having this problem ... I don't see how that would happen, but if it can how can I avoid it?
The instructions you have are for breaking in a flat tappet camshaft. They must be heat cycled, running them for 30 minutes at 2000 RPM's allows it to get up to proper temperature and allow the lifters to wear into it properly. With a hydraulic roller camshaft such at the Hot Cam there is no need in this proceedure.
Technically speaking there isn't any required break in, you could fire down on it as soon as you put it back together if you really wanted to. I would still suggest taking it easy for a couple hundred miles just to make sure everything is cool such as your rocker adjustments, etc.
