You will have to get an adjustable push rod and set up the correct geometry of the valve train and buy a special set of push rods to work with your combination of parts. There is no universally correct answer to your question. What worked for someone else may (probably) not apply to your engine.

You are right about that ! I was just looking for a reference point , because they make pushrod checkers in different lengths , one up to 7.50 , and from 7.50 up to 8 point something . I normally use a solid lifter and a .100 longer pushrod to start , then make my own pushrod checker out of 5/16 steel rod to get it exact ! But with a hydraulic you have to account for the plunger in the lifter ! And so on ............
