Default 9th Injector - Really need it?

Looking at installing a set of Edelbrock TPI tubes and the set availble doesn't have the hole for the 9th injector. So two choices are available. Discard the injector, or drill a hole. Drilling a hole is no big deal. But disabling the 9th injector might be a problem.

Anyone have experience with the later?

Opinions? I know everyone has one of those...

Street and Performance carries such delete kits. I deleted mine when I went to the SuperRam. The car does now take a couple extra turns of the key to start when cold. It starts on one crank when it's warm. Reprogramming your chip may help but I'm not possitive about that one. Check with Jesse.

The newer bin file 88 or 89 allows for a pump shot at the start to eliminate the 9th inj.

If you have an automatic, you can just use 89 auto chip.

I would try the ARAP bin. It was supposedly the most aggressive chip (I've seen this posted on different forums over the years) that GM produced for the early MAF cars. I had my tuner user the ARAP bin as the starting point for my custom chip for this reason.

Tunercat has added the ability to edit the cold start values WITHOUT a 9th injector to the $32b code that 87/88 use. I have not checked $32 fo '86, but I can only imagine that they could add it easily if it isn't there yet.

So, yes, assuming TC can pop the fields in there for you if they haven't already then disabling the 9th will cause a couple extra turns to start when cold (it isn't much), but it your chip can be modified to help eliminate that delay.

Anyone using ARAP just keep in mind that was for Automatics. There was a 6-speed version as well, but I forget the BCC for it at the moment.

Knowing what I know now, I personally wouldn't use 86 code ($32 mask). Mostly the 87/88 is just an update and it has an easier time connecting to scan tool software.

I have some fuel rail caps available. If you're interrested, feel free to email me at jim85iroc at yahoo dot com.

Since I've started tuning my chip, and without going into all the details here, can one load the $32b into a 27c128? I have an 86-A4

This is most interesting. I have a copy of ARAP from the DIY FTP site. I'll give it a try. Thanks

Yes you can use a $32b, you just need to start off with a 87 or 88 Bin. I personally use 89 to start with, but for 4+3 you really need to use 87/88. Their are some advantage in the $32b, in that the fuel table is a little more adjustable. 89 has disadvantages as well. ARAP bin is suposedly the magazine .bin, it didn't come in any factory vehicle.

Jim, what thread size are they? Is it a plug that threads directly into the fuel rail, or actually a cap that goes on the stock fitting?

I recall seeing some plugs with orings, which seems to be the simplest method.
