Ok heres the situation ! I replaced the maf and the relays about 7 months ago . I have had some acceleration problems after about 8 miles , kinda a stutter . I just checked to see if the maf burnoff wire was working , by grounding terminal E of the alcl . It did not glow red , so I connected the old maf and tested it . The burnoff wire was bright red ! I have 2 different mafs with a different problem in each one . I know its time for a new maf . But to get a better understanding , could the burnoff wire could have been causing my problems ? I understand that it burns off the atmospheric impurities on the wire , so that it gives a correct reading , but could it cause those problems ?
Have you thrown any codes? My understanding is the wire only glows
(does the burn off) shortly after shutting the engine off. I know I had to replace both relays MAF relay and Power relay, but I was throwing a
code. At work not in front of book.
As Rick asks, is it throwing any codes when you ground A to B on the ALDL? Code 33 is MAF Sensor Circuit (GM/SEC HIGH)..Code 34 is MAF Sensor Circuit (GM/SEC LOW)..Code 36 is MAF Burn-off Circuit.
"A "burn-off" cycle will occur, when the ignition is turned OFF after the engine has been running a specified amount of time and engine warmed up. The burn-off function is enabled when the ECM grounds CKT 900, which energizes the MAF sensor burn-off relay. With the MAF sensor burn-off relay energized, voltage will be supplied to the MAF sensor terminal "D". Voltage will also be supplied through the normally closed set of contacts in the MAF power relay, which will supply 12 volts to terminal "E" of the MAF sensor."
This could be a part of the stumbling problem, however, when my relays were bad, I didn't notice any stumbling, it was just throwing my emissions off for the test. l
Hope this helps.
