believe it or not, i couldn't find any performance replacement motor mounts for my '87. i tried Energy Suspension (and a bunch of others) and couldn't get my hands on the urethane mounts. not sure if the '84 uses the same mounts or not.
There are no aftermarket "upgraded" engine mounts for C4s. At least in 5 years of ownership I've never seen one. The stock GM type units are all you can get.
I don't know when the change came, but C4s do not use the same mounts as back in the 60's. The change over must have come in the late 70's to early 80's. It might have come with the C4. I haven't seen any "good" mounts for a C4, either.
I came across some aftermarkey mm in one of my catalogs, but didn't pay a whole lot of attention to them though. I'll see if I can find them again; if I do I'll post.
I do know that some of the more rigid mounts transfer a lot of vibration into the car; vibrations that the stock mounts absorb.
Also remember years back when I pulled a 350 TPI from my new 86 Trans Am and installed a 468 BB, I used the same motor and frame mounts. Nothing like a BB in a 'F' body!!
The T/A had holes already factory drilled in the frame. All I had to do was move the frame mounts to the forward most set of holes and the engine dropped in like it was always meant to be there.
So, my thinking is that if the stock ones can handle a 468 BB, . . .
problem with the stock (NOS) rubber mounts is that with 470+ ft-lbs of torque the motor twists so much on launching that it bows my stock 84 hood 1/4 - 1/2"!!! I'd love poly even with the vibration transmissions just to keep things planted. Granted, the superram and lower slung `84 style hood (as opposed to 85 up) might be an issue, I just worry about the stresses on the hood.
