Problems with my Corvette...Need help!
I’m having some problems with my 1984 Corvette and I’m hoping that somebody on this forum might be able to help. The problems first started with a kind of hiccupping problem, where the engine would die for a second while going over bumps (ie railroad tracks). Also at the same time the battery would not hold a charge if it sat for a couple of weeks. These problems have since gone away. Does anybody know what would have caused these problems? Now I’m having cluster and overdrive issues. The dash cluster is digital one and right now the lights and the gages are not working. I replaced the fuse for the LCD’s in the cluster and it keeps blowing new fuses. Is this due to a problem in the cluster or something else, maybe the computer? And while missing around with the LCD fuse I also noticed that the overdrive is no longer functioning. Could all of these problems be computer related or something else?
Thanks for the help!
Dave
Places like autozone will check your batter and your alternator for free.
Bad cluster can cause a drain... but I dont see how it would make your car 'hiccup.'
What I gather from your description is that:
your alternator and battery should be replaced.
There may be an electrical problem with your fuel pump and/or that system.
Your cluster may need to be refreshed a little (like the above posters said: that site is good, and you shoudl be able to find tons of info on this site if you use the search)
just my idea... feel free to ignore
I also believe you have a wire shorting to ground somewhere.
The giveaways are:
It happens when you cross railroad tracks. ( bumping causes the hot wire to touch ground and probably interferes with the ignition.) and
You keep blowing fuses.
I'd FIRST trace the wiring for whatever fuse that keeps blowing. That's probably where the problem lies, somewhere along that wiring route.
