I'm installing new shocks today.
The top threaded shaft, were the arrow points, turns with the nut, as the bottom was bolted down. Its the front shock, '88.
The nut has nylon thread inside and cannot turn if the threaded shaft turns with it.
The other shock is not like that, the threaded part is stationery.
I just want an opinion before I call to return it tomorrow. Defective ???
Its impossible to tighten that nut when the shaft is moving.
You can if you don't use a locknut.
The shocks I have on the car now, the shafts rotate, which concerned me when I was going to put them on, but it turned out to be no problem using the non-locking nuts that came with them.
I just installed new Bilsteins on my '95 and they came with lock nuts and my originals did to. On top of the shaft there was a place for an allen wrench. Unless there different for your model.

YES !!!!!
YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. THERE IS A FITTING FOR AN ALLEN WRENCH ON TOP.
I couldn't have figured that out in a million years. Its hardly noticable.
