So, as long as I have the bottom end out I think I'll stroke it. My question is this: With stroking (383), will I be able to put the same heads, exhaust manifold, and cam back on without any detriment to driveability? What about the programming? Eventually, I'll upgrade all those too, just can't at the moment.
You can, but your powerband will decrease by at least 500 rpm. If you can hold off, try and get a cam, some headwork and port that intake. You wont regret it
Increasing the stroke is going to increase your compression ratio considerably. You may have to get heads with larger chambers or dished pistons. With the price of gas going through the roof you will want to run regular unless you own a gold mine. You didn't say what year car.
The car is a '95 and since I'll be doing the whole bottom end, dished pistons would be the way to go to keep compression down. What kinda compression should i be looking for in order to run regular? I guess that will keep me open for supercharging in the future too, huh?
I would port the heads 65cc and install 9 1/2 or 8 1/2 to one pistons and forged crank, pistons ,rods.
Then you can turbo or SC it at any time and still use regular gas.

Or you can use the KISS methodology and do the stroker. But use some flat tops to get 11.5:1 compression. Using properly ported heads and the right cam combo you can attain 425 to 450 RWHP Of course you need LT headers and a ported intake with this combination. Its been well documented on the CZ28 forums using Lloyd Elliots cam and porting packages. However to get into the 11's one needs to attain 60ft times in the 1.80s at minimum. Which with drag radials and 3.42 gears can be easily had with a decent driver and chassis set up. If you go as far as taking the engine down and doing a stroker kit. By all means save your money up and do it all at once. Having to do a cam after the fact is a royal PITA to do in the car. Do it right the first time, and I can gurantee you will be much happier about it.
Well, I pulled the plugs today and put 2 and 2 together so to speak and have a question that I'm sure someone out there can help with.
I've been noticing an oily discharge on startup out of the left hand exhaust for a couple of months now. No blue smoke that I notice though and she doesn't go through any noticeable amount of oil in between changes.
The left O2 sensor went bad a few weeks back and I replaced it. The old one was all black. All was well until last week when the computer started reporting it bad again.
I pulled all 8 plugs today and all four on the left side (1,3,5, and 7) were coated with black oily residue. All four on the right side however were fine.
My question becomes then is this really blow-by? How often do all the oil rings go bad on one bank of cylinders and the other bank's oil rings are fine? Is there something else going on here that I should be looking for?
Thats a question for the pro's to answer. Maybe TJ or Jake
I'm starting to think its an injector or opti problem for one of the left hand cylinders causing the whole bank to go into fault and fuel fouling the plugs on that side coupled with a crankcase ventilation problem. It's been 60k since the opti was replaced and I put in a cheap set of injectors about a year ago so... I'm checking those options right now.
